Okay, that’s a bit broad, but the Qualia Research Institute is working on measuring the “qualia” the quality of a given experience.

I do not want to spend to much time on the how, they have a falsifiable theory which is one of a kind and also a lot of in-depth articles, which are yours to read, about what they had done so far:

  1. Designed an experiment with a testable prediction for what makes a state of mind pleasant or unpleasant which can be falsified with neuroimaging extremely pleasant states of consciousness. (see: Quantifying Bliss)
  2. Prototyped a neurostimulation platform that can facilitate deep emotional processing by inducing states similar to concentration mediation and psychedelics beneficial high-energy states of mind
  3. Developed Vast amounts of theory, philosophical research, and background scientific frameworks expertise to justify the value of this investigation (see: A Future for Neuroscience, Neural Annealing, Stay Positive Without Going Insane)

The question is as the title said, what are the use cases, how could it be useful?

The first use case is a bit academy, you can show a person a trigger can see objectively the quality of the experience, which is a new tool for understanding consciousness.

If we move closer from that to the real world then it could help close down any UI/UX design problem, because you can A/B test them with measurements and then predict what kind of trigger would cause the best experience, again objectively.

On the other hand of the spectrum, you can quantify what cause the most suffering to ANY animal who has a brain and then start to eliminate it effectively, this could be influential for government policies, and global action to take place scientifically into the right direction. Just imagine that!
